CIMC offers a full range of research services (see below) on a fee basis. The Center currently provides services for a wide range of research projects.

Conventional Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) Services

  1. Conventional processing of specimens for thin sectioning, electron micrographs of thin sections.
  2. Negative staining


Specialized Transmission Electron Microscopy Services

  1. Stereo pair micrographs of semi-thick sections (LEO EM902)
  2. Immunogold localization preparations including low temperature processing and embedding procedures.
  3. Electron Spectroscopic Imaging (ESI) for highly resolved elemental distribution (LEO EM902)
  4. High Pressure Freezing
  5. Freeze-Substitution
  6. Freeze-Fracture


Conventional Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) Services

  1. Routine scanning electron microscopy of Critical Point Dried (CPD) or freeze-dried, coated specimens. Images ranging in magnification from 5X (LEO DSM960) to 500,000X (Hitachi S4500) can be obtained.


Specialized Scanning Electron Microscopy Services

  1. Back Scattered Electron imaging of immunogold labeled specimens
  2. Low kV imaging of uncoated specimens (Hitachi S4500)
  3. Low Temperature SEM of frozen hydrated specimens (Hitachi S4500)
  4. Energy Dispersive X-Ray Microanalysis (Hitachi S4500/PGT IMIX)


Light Microscopy

  1. Bright Field /Phase Contrast Microscopy
  2. Nomarski Differential Interference Contrast (DIC) Microscopy for viewing living cells.
  3. Fluorescence Microscopy (FITC, Rhodamine, DAPI filter sets)
  4. Image Analysis
